Melting snow in Switzerland?

Day 6 - 12th October 2006

Feeling much better after a good rest yesterday, we got up bright and early to head out to the glaciers today. But bright and early with toddlers equates to leaving only in the late morning, after feeding, changing and cleaning them up.

Halfway through the ride to the mountains, we stopped by a charming little playground for the girls to stretch their legs and also for a bite to eat. Everyone got hungry very quickly in the cold weather!

The babes enjoyed running about in the huge playground!

All too soon, we had to drag them away from the playground and back into the car to continue our journey. But no matter, the girls could still entertain each other in the car! This was what transpired between them most of the time...

Awww...so sweet!

We soon reached the foot of the mountains and had to take an exorbitantly expensive cable car ride up to the glaciers.

Terelle all bundled up and raring to go!

Surprisingly it was comfortably warm even as we ascended up the mountain. In fact, some of the snow had begun to melt! It was so warm that we saw some workers laboring away on a new ski track in just tee shirts and slacks!

They must have had a laugh as they watched us bundle the babes in layer after layer of warm clothing!

Some views of the mountains from the cable car

Errr mummy? i cant see a thing!

In order not to risk their safety as we had to take a ski lift down to the snowy landscape, we unceremoniously dumped the girls with my parents in law. Their pitiful wails could still be heard reverberating down the mountainside as they watched us disappear from the log cabin.

One last hug before you have to be on your own!

What we wouldnt do for just 15min of freedom?

At last! We were free of the babies! As we frolicked around in the snow and posed for silly pictures, we were reminded of our days before baby; when everything was much more carefree and lighthearted, when there were fewer worries, fewer fine lines around our eyes and less sky rocketing blood pressures.

We really let our hair down and totally enjoyed ourselves for a good 15min.

Glam girls!

Oh look wat the cat dragged in?! Hehe...

This looked fun but snow on your bald head, on your back and in your pants wasnt very fun after all!

Evon, Caleb, Ryan and Li-Anne - Swinging Singles again!

What a blast we had!

Angie, this pic is specially for you...heehee...

My poor baby had to be soothed, cajoled and pacified when she finally saw us. We were told that she cried almost non stop for the whole 15min we were gone.

And for the rest of the trip, she didnt trust us ever again when we tried to leave her alone. Oops...

We had another "refueling" session at the park beside Lake Geneva in Lausanne. It was a pity the babes were fast asleep; they would have had great fun chasing the countless swans and ducks flapping around at our feet!

After a long day, we were welcomed home with a warm dinner, Asian cuisine no less. As the adults tucked into their fried noodles and roasted chicken, the girls had porridge in front of the trusty old dvd player.

Heads and shoulders, knees and toes!
